Hello Nebraska FFA! I am Colton Flower from the Scottsbluff FFA Chapter. I am now a freshman at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. I grew up in the panhandle of our state with my three sibling and parents. We all love spending time in the barn working on our 4-H and FFA projects like showing livestock. I loved showing hogs and cattle. I’ve shown at the Nebraska State Fair as well as the Denver Stock Show, the NILE and Central States Fair. My passion for showing livestock was ultimately the reason I joined FFA.
After becoming an FFA member, I participated in many competitive events – livestock evaluation, livestock management, vet science, business plan and job interview. My SAE was built from my part time employment at a farm and ranch supply store, Bomgaars. I learned to work in a greenhouse, process freight and assist customers. This really opened my eyes to all the possibilities in agriculture and lead to me to pursue them through my FFA and college experiences. I recently applied for my American Degree and I am still building my SAE. Along with the help of my father and younger sister, I am raising youth livestock projects by breeding our own projects and selling them to local 4-h and FFA participants. In addition to FFA, I value my high school experiences in football, basketball, DECA, National Honor Society and show choir.
My college experiences include my studies in the Agricultural Leadership, Education and Communication (ALEC) department and my involvement in the Nebraska Human Resource Institute (NHRI), University Ambassadors and Block and Bridal. I am also a member of Alpha Gamma Sigma, a professional fraternity with an agricultural foundation. I plan to earn my bachelor’s degree in agricultural education and will pursue a master’s degree before going into the field. I hope to teach in a new agricultural education program, and plan to pursue a doctoral degree after teaching for a period of time. I hope to work at the state level or teach at a university. FFA revealed to me my passion for investing in others and I enjoy discovering new ways in which I may help others grow.
While serving as a state officer for the next year, I hope to make a connection with each and every person I meet. I look forward to seeing new places in this beautiful state and visiting all the amazing chapters of Nebraska.
