I am Andrea Wach and am the daughter of Loran and Nancy Wach. I have been raised on a sixth generation family farm and ranch operation. I’m the fourth of five children and our operation is located outside of Hayes Center, Nebraska. I’ve had experience in growing wheat, corn and sunflowers on my own, and have had the pleasure of studying both plant and animal sciences in my agricultural education courses.
Through FFA I have been active in floriculture, public speaking, livestock judging and many other competitive events. I also enjoyed community service projects with my chapter as we completed roadside, park and fairground clean-up project. Through my chapter, I developed a desire to seek out the needs of the town and strive to enhance our community in any way possible.
As a student I have been involved in volleyball, basketball, track, one-act play production, speech, quiz bowl, band, choir, journalism, student council, National Honor Society and FFA. 4-H has also played a significant role in my life, and I enjoyed showing cattle each summer. I am proud to say I come from a small town where we have more cattle in the county than people; I thoroughly enjoy my rural life.
My Supervised Agricultural Experience consists of 38 acres of wheat. Over the years I’ve lost and gained land, and this summer I am adding 60 acres of irrigated corn. At age 12 I began “Andrea’s Snack Shack” in my family’s shop, I offer food, candy and beverages to employees, the John Deere parts man, UPS drivers and local farmers. My home is 20 miles from pavement, so it has benefited my local customers over the years.
I am very passionate about educating those people misinformed about agriculture issues and believe that I can have a positive impact on our society. My passion has led me to enhance and develop new skills by studying Agricultural Communications and Public Relations, with a minor in Entrepreneurship at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in the fall.
As a state officer, I plan to bring optimism, creativity and determination to our team and Nebraska FFA. I am able to find the positive outlook in tough situations. I’m excited to see what this next year has in store and what we can do for the FFA Organization. I especially look forward to the opportunity to meet many new members this coming year!
